My computer is not recognizing external hard drive

Hi folks, A friend of mine has given me his My Book to test for him. Suddenly his computer has stopped recognizing it. I also can’t see it on my computer with a different cable and power source (they work fine for my own My Book). I’ve tried to check though the forum for a solution without much luck. Here’s some more info… It doesn’t show up in My Computer or Disk Management However
